GET Payroll Deduction - Employees

Please scroll down for Employer Instructions

Use payroll deduction to make convenient contributions to your GET account. Payroll deduction deposits go into your GET account on your pay dates and you can make changes to your deductions at any time directly through your payroll office.  There is no cost either to you or your employer.

How to get started

First, check if your employer is already offering GET as a Payroll Deduction option.  For a list of existing employers, click here.  If you don’t see your employer listed here, consider sharing the information below with your Human Resources or Payroll office and let them know you are interested in having GET as a payroll deduction option.

Second, make sure you have your GET account(s) already opened.

  • If you already have your GET account number(s), simply complete the automatic payroll deduction form and give the original to your Payroll office and send a copy to GET.

  • If you do not have your GET account(s) open, ENROLL NOW.  Once your accounts are open and you have your GET account number(s) simply complete the automatic payroll deduction form and give the original to your Payroll office and send a copy to GET.

Remember, GET accounts grow tax-free and the distributions will be tax-free when used for tuition or other qualified higher education expenses. GET payroll deductions are after-tax deductions, as required under Section 529 of the Internal Revenue Code.

GET Payroll Deduction - Employers

Join employers across Washington in offering GET Payroll Deduction to your employees. By saving regularly, your employees will have the opportunity to regularly set something aside for their child's or grandchild's future college expenses.

It's easy for your employees to enroll online. Employee contributions can be as affordable as $20/month and withdrawal amounts can be adjusted at anytime. Also, a GET account that's set up with payroll deduction is completely portable in case of employment changes.

IT'S EASY AND FAST
It takes less than five minutes to set up GET Payroll Deduction - and then only a few minutes every payroll cycle. Just follow the steps below.

Registering your organization

Complete the online Payroll Deduction Establishment form or download the paper form and return it to us. You will need:

  • Your organization name and mailing address

  • The contact person in your payroll/benefits office (name, title, phone, fax, and email address)

  • Your payroll frequency

  • Your Tax Identification Number

We will notify you when your registration is complete and provide you with additional details and helpful information to share with your employees.

Telling Your Employees

  • Tell your employees that you offer payroll deduction for GET accounts. We can send you all the information you need to help your employees learn more about GET and how to enroll.

  • Your employees must have GET accounts already established to participate in GET payroll deduction.  To enroll in the GET Program, your employees may enroll by mail or online at our website during an open enrollment period (November 1 - May 31 each year).  Payroll deduction can be started anytime after the employee's GET account(s) have been opened.

  • Once the GET account is open, your employees complete a Payroll Deduction Authorization form and return it to you in order to start their deductions. A copy of the form should also be sent to us.

We would be happy to provide brochures, posters and sample newsletter articles for you to share with your employees. Or, contact our Community Relations Manager to schedule a "Lunch and Learn" presentation or open house for your employees (Click here for more details).
