How to set up payroll deduction

It takes less than five minutes to set up GET Payroll Deduction for your employees - and then only a few minutes every payroll cycle. Just follow the steps below.

  • Complete the Employer Payroll Deduction Establishment form. You have two options to complete the form:
    • Submit the form online (Available November 1), or
    • Download, print and mail a paper form (Available November 1)
  • Make sure to have the following information handy:
    • Your organization name and mailing address
    • The contact person in your payroll/benefits office
    • Your payroll frequency
    • Your Tax Identification Number
  • We will notify you when your registration is complete and provide you with additional details and helpful information to share with your employees.

How to help your employees enroll

Once you’ve established payroll deduction at your worksite, we’ll help you spread the word to your employees by providing brochures, flyers, email and newsletter templates and other materials that relay the benefits of saving through payroll deduction. We’re also available to come to your worksite for benefits fairs, presentations and meetings with your staff.

When an employee is ready to get started, they simply follow these steps:

  • First, if they don’t already have a GET account, they must open one between November 1 and May 31 annually.
  • Once their GET account is established, they will complete the Employee Payroll Deduction Authorization form and return it to you. Payroll deduction participants can contribute as little as $20/month, though most choose to contribute more.
  • If they ever need to make changes to their payroll deduction amounts, they can also use the Payroll Deduction Authorization Form.
  • GET payroll deductions are after-tax deductions, as required under Section 529 of the Internal Revenue Code.

How to Send Employee Contributions to GET

  • When your participating employees complete the Payroll Deduction Authorization form, they will indicate how much they would like deducted from their check for each pay cycle.
  • Note that all employee contributions are to be after-tax deductions, as required by Section 529 of the Internal Revenue code.
  • For each payroll cycle, you can choose to send us a check or electronic payment with the total of all participating employees’ contributions.
  • Include a list of your participating employees so we can match up amounts with individual accounts.
