More Details

My student's college needs the payment for fall term right away. What should I do?
You have two options:

1.  Contact the student accounts office at your student's college and ask them to place a hold on his or her account. Some colleges wll do this if they know they will receive guaranteed funding from GET.

2.  Pay the tuition yourself and request reimbursement from GET.

The payment deadline to my child's college has passed. I submitted my Direct Payment request on time. Why hasn't the money been distributed from my GET account?

Some of the large Washington public colleges ask us to batch payments for each term, which allows them to receive one payment for all students. The colleges often post the GET funds to the student's account and then request payment from GET, generally after the payment deadline has passed. To see if this applies to you, login to your account to verify that your online Direct Payment request is in "Approved" status and that all of the information you submitted, including payment term and date needed, is correct.

What if I complete a Direct Payment request and my student then reduces his courseload or withdraws from college?

In most cases (depending on the school's refund policy), the college will refund any overpayment to the student, which could have tax consequences.

I just completed the Direct Payment request online, but I entered the wrong amount. What should I do?
As long as your requested payment is in "Approved" status rather than "Distributed" status, you can cancel the Direct Payment request. Go back to "Direct Payment request" online and click on "Cancel" next to the request. Then submit a new Direct Payment request for the correct amount.

If I use 100 units at the University of Washington or Washington State University, why do I still owe college fees?
The college fees that you owe are college-specific fees. There is often confusion between state-mandated fees and college-specific fees. One hundred GET units covers one year of tuition and state-mandated fees at the most expensive public university in Washington.

State-mandated fees are approved by the state and charged by all state public colleges and universities. College-specific fees are fees assessed by individual colleges and universities and are not included in the 100 units. They may be mandatory fees for that particular school, such as the IMA Bond Fee at the UW, but are not state-mandated fees.

Can a reimbursement from GET be paid directly to the student beneficiary?

Yes. To authorize payment to your student, please complete the designated section of the paper Reimbursement Request form and have your signature notarized.
